Iaido
Iaido is the Japanese Sword art of drawing, cutting, and re-sheathing the sword. The technique is highly refined, simple yet direct. Iaido training is a way for the Iaidoka (Iaido practitioner) to polish their spirit (kokoro).
Iaido training consists of solo forms or katas. These forms grouped together make up various schools of Iaido. As a true Budo, Iaido is a battle of the self, a cutting away of the ego. It is a unification of both physical and mental training with a sword that promotes physical proficiency and spiritual development (seishen tanren). The study of Iaido is very complementary to the weapons training within Aikido.
